On this Veterans Day, over 25 birders congregated to take part in the Huntley
Meadows Monday Morning Birdwalk. We tallied 42 species, with a few highlights:
a Winter Wren was heard singing from somewhere in one of the new brush piles;
three Red-headed Woodpeckers were spotted in the area we have seen them
inhabiting this fall - one was a juvenal whose head was not yet red; a
Red-breasted Nuthatch was spotted near the Hoffman Visitor Center; and 6 Rusty
Blackbirds were spotted near the tower. Several birders explored the new
construction project and were impressed. Presumably, the Monday Morning
Birdwalk will eventually add this area to its itinerary as it has been built to
accommodate such activity.
