Today's Huntley Meadows Monday Morning Birdwalk attracted 18 birders on a very
warm, bright and somewhat humid day. We spotted 49 species, with highlights
continuing to be Hooded Merganser and Wood Duck family groups in their
promenades around the central wetlands. Additionally, we continue to be
entertained by the acrobatics of swooping swallows, the graceful cruising of a
hungry Osprey, and the domesticity of Kingbirds and Blue-gray Gnatcatchers as
they work around their nest sites. We struggled to find the reputed Rails and
Bitterns, as well as the Pied-billed Grebe that we saw Saturday, but no luck
any where. We hope all had a happy Bloomsday today, and took part in the
required reading.
