Good evening, I will be traveling to Virginia at the end of this month on
business and was wondering if I could get a little info from local birders on
where the best places to bird are. I will be staying in the North Hampton
County and would like to bird as much as possible during my trip.
On my map I see a Chincoteague NWR not far from where I am staying. Is this a
good place to bird? Any info on this NWR would be greatly appreciated.
Here are a list of target birds that I would love to search and maybe find.
Red-headed Woodpecker, Summer Tanager, Dickcissel, Golden-winged, Kentucky,
Swainson's and Prothonotary Warbler, Brown Pelican, White Ibis, Fulvous
Whistling-Duck, Mississippi Kite, Wilson's Plover, Gull-billed, Sandwich,
Royal, and Caspian Terns, Eurasian Collared- Dove, Barn Owl, Whip-poor-will,
Chuck-will's-widow, and Brown-headed Nuthatch.
Now I know that not all these birds are common in the area that I will be but
any tips and suggestions on where to go to find a few of these birds would be
great to have. Thank you and happy birding,
Mark
