Howdy all,
Well, it was a slower one at the banding station today. We only banded 21,
but that included 15 species! So read into that, we caught one of a lot of
species. The best bird of the day was SCARLET TANAGER, and we caught two of
them! Not a species we catch many of here. We also had another BLACKPOLL
WARBLER
today as well.
As things look right now, tomorrow is most likely going to be another slow
one, but there is a cold front (north winds) coming in tomorrow night. That's
good news! The bad news is, is that it is going to be windy Tuesday morning.
If the winds are too strong, we will have to limit the number of nets we can
safely run (only run nets that are out of the wind). If that is the case, we
will miss many birds. But I am hopeful that the winds will be calmer in the
morning and that way we can run more nets! Of course this is all a wait and
see. But there will be more birds in the area Tuesday, no matter what the wind
is like during the day!
Here are the totals for 10/5:
American Restart 1
Magnolia Warbler 1
Black-&-white Warbler 1
Common Yellowthroat 1
Blackpoll Warbler 1
Black-thr. Blue Warbler 1
Ovenbird 1
House Wren 2
Carolina Chickadee 1
Tufted Titmouse 1
Red-eyed Vireo 1
Scarlet Tanager 2 first for the season
Northern Mockingbird 1
Gray Catbird 5
Brown Thrasher 1 Mimid trifecta!
