I was up way too early this morning and decided to go out for a bit so
headed to Mathews. I had been wanting to get to Bethel Beach to see the
changes since the hurricane and nor'easter so I went there first. The
beach seems much smaller now....and the access to the hook is now gone.
That was the best place for birds at Bethel Beach so I was a bit bummed
about it. I had heard the inlet was shallow and you could still cross
at low tide, but it has now grown to about 15 yards wide and looks to be
quite deep. It was high tide and there was no getting across it today.
There were a large number of fishing boats working along the shoreline
and lots of birds following them. I would estimate 200-300
pelicans...they were everywhere. After spending time at Bethel Beach, I
went over to Winter Harbor and was treated to terns galore at the dock.
They were super cooperative with posing for pictures and I got some
great shots.
I did take quite a few pics, but haven't got them ready yet. I will
send an update email once they are posted.
