Virginia Birders,
I'm forwarding this request from my colleague Tom Bidrowski. This survey is
purely informational and will not be used to harvest any of the birds reported.

The Virginia Department of Game & Inland Fisheries (VDGIF) is conducting a
state-wide survey of mute swans. The survey's purpose is to monitor Virginia's
mute swan population and distribution. This survey has been conducted every
three years since 1986 as part of the Atlantic Flyway Council's monitoring
program. We are again requesting your help!
During the month of August, if you notice any mute swans please fill out the
attached form
http://www.dgif.virginia.gov/wildlife/waterfowl/MUSW-Survey-2008.doc or PDF ;
version http://www.dgif.virginia.gov/wildlife/waterfowl/MUSW-Survey-2008.pdf ;
and return it to the address below by September 15th. VDGIF is also interested
in knowing the locations of other swans (black swans, black-necked and etc);
please include them in this survey. Results of this survey will be incorporated
into a Mute Swan Management Plan for Virginia. This plan's objective will be to
address mute swan impacts to native species and habitats.
Once again, we appreciate your interest and cooperation. Please forward this
survey on to anyone that may be willing to assist. If have any questions about
the survey, mute swans or waterfowl in general please don't hesitate to contact
me. Attached is an observation form and survey instructions.
Sincerely,
Tom Bidrowski
