Nine birders came out for the Northern Virginia Bird Club's walk at
Riverbend Park in Fairfax County this morning. We started at the
Visitor Center and walked along the river in the direction of Great
Falls Park. The Virginia Bluebells were still out in full force and
still beautiful. Later, some of us took a quick trip around the meadow
up by the Nature Center. This netted a couple of more species. We had
a total of 41 species for the day. The highlight was certainly the six
warbler species that we saw and often heard singing along the river:
Yellow-rumped, Palm, Yellow-throated, Black and White, Northern Parula,
and LA Waterthrush. A Blue-headed Vireo was also briefly seen and we
enjoyed a pair of Wood Ducks out on the river.
Our walks are free and open to all. For a schedule of upcoming trips,
go to http://www.nvabc.org/trips.htm Next Saturday we will be at
Occoquan Bay NWR.
