Occoquan NWR was pretty quiet this morning. The most notable find was an
apparent sora along Charlie Rd, The bird popped up from the vegetation
alongside the road, flew about 20 feet, and dropped back down into the dense
grasses. I did not get my binoculars on it. The bird was dark, had a very
short tail, and about the size of a bobwhite. Its flight was kind of floppy,
with dangling legs. I cannot think what else it might have been (it definitely
was not a bobwhite). Other notables were an osprey, a couple of savannah
sparrows, yellow-rumped warblers, and a house wren.
