For those who have been sitting on the edges of their seats wondering
whether or not our Orange-crowned Warbler has returned for its eighth year,
wait no longer. It has returned. There is, of course, no way of knowing
whether it continues to be the same bird that first showed up low those many
years ago. But it's kinda neat to think so.
Other birds recently at our feeders included 2 Brown-headed and a
Red-breasted Nuthatch, a Pine Siskin, an American Goldfinch, 4 House Finches, 2
Song Sparrows, 3 White-throated Sparrows, a bright Pine Warbler and a few
Yellow-rumped Warblers, 2 Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers, 2 Northern Flickers, a
pair of Downy Woodpeckers, a dozen and a half Mourning Doves, 6 Dark-eyed
Juncos, 4 Carolina Chickadees, a pair of Carolina Wrens, a Winter Wren, and a
bunch of Northern Cardinals that start the day and then return to finish it as
well.
I wish you a great holiday season amidst plenty of good Christmas Bird
Counts.
Cheers,
Bob
