}Wendy - thanks for the heads-up on the new permit. I looked online
and didn't find an answer - it might be more obvious to folks who know
about such things, but if I get a Duck Stamp, do I also need the new
permit? We like to collect the Duck Stamps anyway.
Also thought I'd report on my sightings at Belle Haven for Sunday
evening while I'm here:
October 16
6:30 pm in the waning light
Canada Geese - too many to count at dusk
The lone Tundra Swan
Mallards - also too many to count
Northern Shovelers - 3 m, 3 f
Ruddy Ducks - 60, in several little rafts
Great Blue Herons - 20
Great Egrets - 48. We counted them twice (eBird gave me the "Are you
sure?" on this one)
American Coots - 180 bobbing and surging in a nice big raft
Great Black-backed Gull - 1
Ring-Billed Gulls - 2200, all over the low-tide mud and over near
Hunting Creek. Counted a section and extrapolated from there. Asked
two other people present if they agreed with my number - got a "Yes!"
from both (got the "Are you sure?" on this one, too, to my surprise)
Happy birding!
