Thanks to Dave Hunter who agreed to cover the morning and sat at the gap
all morning in the fog waiting for it to clear, but it never did, until
after he left. Official counter Rose Thomas got the better half of the day
when she counted in the afternoon once the fog cleared.
Weather:
Fog filled Rockfish Gap all morning, finally clearing after noon. Rose
arrived on site at 1:00pm EST to cover the afternoon. During the count
period temps ranged from 29.6-28.6C under partly cloudy skies and westerly
breezes.
Raptor Observations:
Another fairly slow day, but a few decent birds in just 3 hours including
the season's second Cooper's Hawk and the season's second Kestrel.
Non-raptor Observations:
11 Cedar Waxwings, 15 Chimney Swifts, 1 Hummingbird, 7 Barn Swallows.
Predictions:
Tomorrow looks gorgeous! Mid-upper-70's and sunny with north wind.
Fingers crossed for a good raptor flight.
