Coastal Virginia Wildlife Observatory participated yesterday in The Big
Sit! for the 13th consecutive year at the Kiptopeke Hawkwatch platform. There
are details and results about this one-day, stationary bird count on the
Bird Watcher's Diary website.
We broke our record of 88 species (6th place nationally) from last year
with 89. An American Woodcock fly-by just before dawn was a great way to
start. Some other highlights were Common Loon, Black-bellied Plover, Common
Nighthawk, Red-headed Woodpecker, Tennessee Warbler, Cape May Warbler and Pine
Siskin.
Thanks to the main counters, Lynn Davidson, Hal Wierenga, Harry Armistead,
Bob Reineer, Bob Anderson, Thuy Tran, Calvin Brennan and Cameron Cox.
