Greetings All From Craney Island, Portsmouth
Below is the preliminary list of species observed during day two of the VSO's
Ruth Beck Craney Island field trips. Twenty-three participants found today's
birds at this Army Corps of Engineers dredge spoil disposal site just the
breath of fresh air needed to dissipate heavy smoke from the Dismal Swamp fires.
Highlights included are-you-kidding-me numbers of Black-necked Stilts and
American Avocets, 8 Marbled Godwits, several close Stilt Sandpipers, 2 Wilson's
Phalaropes, a shabby looking Glaucous Gull, nice ballets of Black Terns, and
more fun than you could possibly cover with any amount of Hampton Roads muck!!!
Best Birds,
Bill Williams
