The water is still so high on the James in Richmond that there have been few
ducks here on the driveable stretch of the river. Even the cormorants are
perching in the tops of sycamores. 2 RNDUs diving and 2 BUFFs flying toward
relatively calm water yesterday along Riverside Drive. Mallards and geese
stay in the quarry pond for now. At least we're not in a drought?! :-)

Our hardy group tallied 36 species on this beautiful day. With the river
high and fast, there was a paucity of ducks. There were excellent views of a
very cooperative hermit thrush.
This walk meets at 8:00am on Sundays in the visitors center courtyard and
all are welcome.
My thanks to Sally Wechsler and Ralph Wall for their capable leadership and
tallying in my absence. --Marshall Rawson, McLean VA
