Suburban Annandale is pretty urban for this species unless somebody has an
ornamental collection. Down here in hunter's paradise we see them quite often;
the VDGIF folks tell me that people intentionally release them on private land
to train dogs but, VDGIF hasn't released them for many years.
VARCOM says they're not countable.

This is a late report, but placed here for the record and to seek any
information readers might have about its origin.
While I was on holiday in June, a neighbor sent me a photo of a 'strange
looking bird' that was crossing her lawn (in suburban Annandale, Fairfax
County). It was also seen on the same day by other neighbors, but no reports
since. The bird was a male Ring-necked Pheasant.
This bird must have escaped (or been released) from some hunting operation.
Does anyone have any ideas where it could have originated?
Thanks,
