I went back to the park at 1:30 pm and the hummingbird was still there in
roughly the same spot. I was able to get a couple more pictures including one
of the tail spread. I believe that the bird may be a sub-adult male rufous
hummingbird. The outer tail feather is wide and there is an extensive amount
of rufous on the flanks. Bill

Subject: [Va-bird] Rufous Allen Type Hummingbird At Greenspring Garden Park
This Morning
The Rufous Allen Type Hummingbird is still present at Greenspring Garden
Park. I was able to get some better pictures of it -- but none that clearly
show its tail in flight. Any thoughts on which species it might be? The
hummer is hanging around the rose garden and flower beds around the manor
house. To my knowledge, the park does not have hummingbird feeders up -- but
plenty of flowers remain in bloom. Bill
