I birded with Mary Foster this afternoon along S Meadow Rd in Pittsylvania Co
and we spotted a flock of at least 50 bobolinks. This was a lifebird for me.
Also present were several E Meadowlarks, RW Blackbirds, Killdeer and a pair of
E Kingbirds. While birding, we spoke with a local landowner who informed us
that if allowed to proceed, the area will become a uranium mine instead of
pastureland and bird habitat. This is a local issue at this point, but if it
becomes statewide, please oppose any effort to allow uranium mining in the
state. Also, on Sunday, I observed at least 10 solitary and 2 pectoral
sandpipers in the wetland at Anglers Park in Danville.
