I would also have reservations about approaching someone else's teen, taking
something that belonged to them, and possibly touching them even on the hand
or arm in the process. Depending on the firearm and how it was transported,
one could also run into other issues. Unless one is being directly attacked
and has a justified self-defense issue, it is wise to delegate to an LEO
rather than take on a role one is not trained and authorized to do.

While I certainly applaud the Coaris' willingness to get involved in this
crime - I would imagine it is just that - a crime - and we could drop the
"wildlife" from this incident even tho that poor Mallard wound up on the
receiving end.
I think the local police force would take a keen interest in anyone
discharging a weapon in a public place and would respond appropriately to a
911 call. Hopefully, hauling his young hiney home in a squad car,
confiscation of the weapon and a citation would help educate all ignorant
parties involved. I would also be nervous about approaching and having my
eye shot out w. a BB gun if the kid had a few loose screws...
Anyway... just saying.
