Western Kingbird in Arlington Co., Va. December 29, 2007.
A Western Kingbird was found alive sitting on the ground, but weak yesterday.
It was found on South Hayes Street, south of 15th Street, between the Aurora
Hills Library and Pentagon Row around 11:55 am on Dec. 29th
The bird is currently (8am Dec. 30th) resting/sleeping in a box inside the
apartment.
We have attempted to feed the bird some cat food, and have gotten some water
into
it.
It is alert, and can stand upright, but is emaciated and very weak.
(Hey, like there are no insects here in the winter!)
This is possibly an adult female; there is a very small amount of “red” in the
crown.
The bird is probably too weak to be released and survive outside.
Any suggestions? Who to call?
I have not seen any recent reports for W. Kingbirds on the MD or VA lists.
