Was able to break away and check out the mudflats as the tide was
coming in this morning. From the stone bridge on the GW Mem Pkwy just
south of Old Town Alexandria. Had a few good birds.
2 (pair) of Kingbirds on the edge of the Golf Course creek
1 Yellow warbler singing in the same area.
2 or 3 Blackpolls squeaking in the trees by the bridge
~ 150 RB gulls
8 Caspian Terns
2 GBB Gulls
2 Adult Bald Eagles and 1, maybe a second immature
2 G. Yellowlegs looking fine in breeding plumes
2 Spooted Sandpoopers
2 solitary sandpipers
6 - 8 C Grackles flying this way and that, fairly active, foraging in
the spatterdock.
8 Barn Swallows working the pilings near Portovecchio
Ospreys look to have stayed or reclaimed the nest on the barge w. the
crane. Crane is still horizontal but nest was occupied by one bird and
a second was sitting on a post next to the crane eating a fish.
Then I had to go back to work - a good thing really. ONE SPOT LEFT FOR
THE BIG DAY TRIP THIS SATURDAY! LET ME KNOW...
