Hungry Mother State Park Lake

I found one (1) Red-necked Grebe on the lake along with 2 Horned Grebes
this afternoon. Checked the entire lake carefully from as many observation
points as possible, including the deep cove boat ramp at the end of W.
Lakeview Lane off Mitchell Valley Rd.
This is part of a major fallout of grebes in the region which came from the
passage of the winter storm Titan. All but this one bird at Hungry Mother
State Park were on large bodies of water found most in counties adjacent
to the Virginia state line and in the upper Tennessee River drainage. The
region total is about 200 Red-necked Grebes. This is a new state record
for Tennessee.
I observed the bird in the far upper end of the lake from the cabin driveway
just off Lake Drive at the second intersection of CCC Cabin Rd. on the
backside of the lake.
