Eleanor,

Have you ever burned a disk before using this drive, are you sure that it can 
be used for burning CD's?.
Try opening up your "My Computer" and arrow down to the CD drive. If you see 
something like "CD R" or "CD RW" then it will burn and reburn  disks. If it 
doesn't have the "R" or "RW" after CD then its only a CD Drive and will burn 
nothing.
