I must pull back here, sadly! It looks as though special configurations are
needed to achieve this result.
Like you, Flor, I tried to email a text message to myself but it did not
work.
When I examine the web site where the advice is laid out, I see that it is
associated with one or other tool that has to be purchased.
I'll try to be more cautious with my advice in the future!

I just tried it again this evening, for a mobile # in Ireland that didn't
(on my iPhone) have an email address; and it didn't work. After a few
minutes, I got the message, 'the server rejected one or more of the
addresses as invalid' - that was the phone number as the only address. 'the
email is in your Outbox. Ok button.' I could of course try with a different
server, but I don't see how, if the phone doesn't see an email address
somewhere in its info, it could treat the message as an email to be sent to
a mail recipient.

I can understand that working for someone with an email address in your
contacts. But will that work for someone who doesn't have an email address,
and in Ireland? I know that for several countries it's possible to send an
email to, say, 1234567@xxxxxxxxxxxx, where those digits are the phone number
of the recipient. I did try sending an email to a mobile number in Ireland
(where it would appear as a text message); but at those times I wasn't
successful.

It seems that you have only to put the phone number in the address field!
Try this:
Click "Forward" which you will find after clicking on "More" at the bottom
of the open message.
Swipe down to Forward and double tap.
Type +353 and the rest of the mobile number without the leading 0.
Click send.
That should do it.

She does have an email address (at least from which the email was sent,
however obscure it may be).
If you try to reply to the message, where does it want to go? (You could
find that out by hitting Reply and then reading down a few lines. You can
Escape again if you don't want to actually reply.)
With JAWS on the PC, there is a way that usually works, or one through which
the email address can be deduced (or 'redacted').
So with JAWS running on the computer, you enter the message whose originator
you want to find, and then press the keys alt+1 twice. That'll give you the
original contact's address (or the string which includes the original
contact's address within it).
