I have my gmail account set up in Outlook but wasn't logged into the web
interface at the time.
I have successfully set up email addresses for people before but maybe Google
don't want people doing that any more.
I can't do anything now anyway as the phone number to verify cannot be used
again. I think my friend will have to try and set it up on his own machine
perhaps.

your own GMAIL account running in the background on your computer? Did
Google see your own GMail account when you were verifying his new one? (You

When I was setting up the account, I gave my friends mobile number and he
was able to give me the verification code. I don't understand why Google
would allow me to set up the account and then within seconds of doing so
would suspend it.

Do you have your own GMail account, and your own mobile phone associated
with it (for two-step verification for yourself)? Would it be at all
possible for you to use the friend's mobile number for code verification,
then when they get the SMS from Google they contact you ASAP. (As a
workaround, that might work, or else the account has really been suspended.
In that event, well there used to be a link for support for visually
impaired customers, or some such.)

Hi all
I have been trying to setup a gmail account for a friend but have been
unable to do so.
I fill in all the details and verify the account using a code that I get by
text and then I am told that the account has been suspended.
I have tried it a number of times now with the same result using Internet
explorer and firefox.
Does anyone know why this could be?
