Hi John the microwave oven is indeed a cobolt and it has various built in programmes such as defrost cook meat, fish, and so on. By pressing the same button you can step through the various programmes so braille wouldn't work in this case.

Ah, I see that's a purpose-made microwave you have then Paul, by Cobolt, who specialise in such things. I have a phone, talking thermostat and stopwatch of their make, and they all do a great job, very clear speech too.The one I use doesn't have a dial either, hence the numbers Brailled three across on three rows, in accordance with their visual equivalents.John L----- Original Message ----- From: "Paul" <pauldmahoney@xxxxxxxxxx>To: <vip_students@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Saturday, January 21, 2012 5:09 PM Subject: [vip_students] Re: Talking Microwave OvensJohn the microwave oven that i have have buttons like a phone pad instead of a dial. so the braille labels wouldn't work and of course not all visually impaired read braille.Paul Mahoney----- Original Message ----- From: "John Lynch" <johnlynch7@xxxxxxxxxx>To: <vip_students@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Saturday, January 21, 2012 1:53 PM Subject: [vip_students] Re: Talking Microwave OvensOh I well know you weren't Eleanor, but it just sprang to mind at that particular moment in time and so by way of thinking out loud, so to speak, just jotted it down here but won't change my views unless or until someone manages to persuade me otherwise.John L----- Original Message ----- From: "Eleanor Burke" <eleanorburke@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx>To: <vip_students@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Saturday, January 21, 2012 11:24 AM Subject: [vip_students] Re: Talking Microwave OvensJohn I was not wishing to start a debate on talking microwaves, my message asked for opinions from those using them.-----Original message----- From: John Lynch Sent: 21/01/2012, 10:47 am To: vip_students@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [vip_students] Re: Talking Microwave OvensI would be cuious to know, if anyone here can tell me, the advantages of atalking microwave oven over an ordinary one whereon Braille labels are positioned, as per my previous post on this thread.I am assuming that either the talking version is of a more elaborate brand of microwave, or that they are designed for people who do not know Braille, not that I have any plans to purchase; just curious, as said earlier. We hadone back in the 1980's which had a browing facility, whereas more recentones just do the heating and weren't they a brilliant invention for blindfolk, though not with them in mind. But if it's talking micrwoaves you want, I reckon Cobolt Systems are thego-to folk for those.
