Oh, I'm well aware they don't Paul, but it wouldn't take a genius to master
basic Braille letters, which act as numbers with a sign before them,
provided a blind or vision-impaired person's tactile senses were still functioning.

In the grand scheme of things, I would only find talking gadgets beneficial where there is no Braille equivalent or I cannot make suitable adaptations on a device.

John the microwave oven that i have have buttons like a phone pad instead
of a dial. so the braille labels wouldn't work and of course not all
visually impaired read braille.

Oh I well know you weren't Eleanor, but it just sprang to mind at that
particular moment in time and so by way of thinking out loud, so to
speak, just jotted it down here but won't change my views unless or until
someone manages to persuade me otherwise.

John I was not wishing to start a debate on talking microwaves, my
message asked for opinions from those using them.

I would be cuious to know, if anyone here can tell me, the advantages of
a
talking microwave oven over an ordinary one whereon Braille labels are
positioned, as per my previous post on this thread.

I am assuming that either the talking version is of a more elaborate
brand
of microwave, or that they are designed for people who do not know
Braille,
not that I have any plans to purchase; just curious, as said earlier.

Excellent thanks Paul. Now I wonder how much more expensive. The cheaper
one
is 215 pounds. Anyway I can find out on Monday.

 Eleanor,

Why bother with talking microwaves when one can Braille out the numbers
on
dymotape, stick them and other commands like 'time', 'start' and 'stop'
at
their appropriate points.

For myself now, I've got numbers , 2 and 3 at the top row, followed by
4,
5 6; third row 7, 8, 9 with zero below the 8.

Perhaps it depends on the type of microwave in terms of features. We
had
one back in the 1980's which had a browing facility, whereas more recent
ones just do the heating and weren't they a brilliant invention for blind
folk, though not with them in mind.

But if it's talking micrwoaves you want, I reckon Cobolt Systems are the
go-to folk for those.

   Hi
Does anyone have one of these? Did you have to get it from UK or is
there a supplier in Ireland? What do those of you who have one think of
it?
