another part of the problem is that when i open such a webpage from favourites it is a very tiny window whereas previously it opened maximised, i know i can always maximise it but how do i get it back where it was always maximised?

Hi Paul, First check in your "Add/Remove Programs" list that Google Chrome isn't installed in there. If it is then remove it.Next, go into "Internet Options in control panel and make sure that InternetExplorer is set to check that it is the default browser and just click on "Set as default" to be sure. Now try using those favorites and see if they work.
