Since I read the books I validate, I tend to delete the end-of-line hyphens, if necessary, as I read, but otherwise I'd globally replace with nothing. Unfortunately sometimes that closes words that hsould be hyphenated, likt eight-year-old girl--but thenthat usually shows up as an error when you spell-check.
