Tom,

Are you speaking of settings in MS Word, or in OpenBook?

The hyphenated word fragments were in the scanned book.  And then they
remained in the Word file.

Hi Rick, First do you have optional hyphens turned off? After doing that 
reload the file. And see if that helps. Optional Hyphens can be located by 
using a carrot hyphen in the find and replace replacing with nothing. It 
also occurs to me that you might check the page set-up in the file menu, it 
should be set to eight and a half by twenty. Let me know what happens. I've 
never had a problem with end-of-line hyphens.Tom
