Sorry Rick I assumed you were speaking of hyphens that M S Word inserted, that were not in the original text. They can be removed semi-globally, smile, by using the find and replace, control-h put the hyphen into the find field and nothing in the replace field, hit alt-f to find the first occurrance. If it is to be deleted hit the r key if not do alt -f again, working your way through the text. HTH Tom

Tom,

Are you speaking of settings in MS Word, or in OpenBook?

The hyphenated word fragments were in the scanned book. And then they
remained in the Word file.

Thanks.
Rik

Hi Rick, First do you have optional hyphens turned off? After doing that
reload the file. And see if that helps. Optional Hyphens can be located by
using a carrot hyphen in the find and replace replacing with nothing. It
also occurs to me that you might check the page set-up in the file menu, it
should be set to eight and a half by twenty. Let me know what happens. I've
never had a problem with end-of-line hyphens.Tom

Let's title this: A little fun with numbers.

I'm finding a number of the end of line dashes in a book I'm working on.

I'm using my Word 2000 spell checker.

In Word, I find that correcting those end of line dashes is a real pain,
or
I need to be instructed on the technique. Maybe someone has an idea.

Here is an example of the problem I'm having. The word NUMBERS was split
up at the end of a line. I have the spell checker coming up with "BERS."
I
reckon we all know, just like Mr. Word, that NUMB is a word, huh? (smile
even when it hurts?) Well, then, with the dialogue box in Word I can only
go back to the beginning of "BERS." and not back to hook up with good old
Mr. Numb. Any ideas how to get my cursor to the line above?

I know this must have an answer. It is just time for a walk! (smile)

I'm sure you may have a number of suggestions, mmm?

Thanks.
Rik
