One thing I am sure is not in manual on validating is spell check. I have been
scanning and correcting my scans because a lot of the fiction I have scanned
include dialect and/or dialogue which by normal standards is badly misspelled
but is deliberate as with a character with a lisp where the author has replaced
every "s" in his lines with "th" and some the words become very strange.
Also, many writers don't always spell properly or combine words which are
normally separated and the publishers and editors have chosen, rightly I think,
to respect the authors words. So if you are not sure whether the word is
misspelled or deliberate, and are not sighted and do not have a copy of the
text, then assume that the scanner deliberately left it as it was and follow
his/her example. That is why your choice of books to validate is so important
but if you discover a book is not in your realm of experience no one will fault
you for returning it for someone else to work on.
