Good for you! There's no reason why that stuff should make it into the collection - especially since just a little conscientious effort would have made a big difference in the quality of the scan.


And you are also right that validators can only do so much. In the kinds of cases you are talking about, they have the options of either doing a massive amount of work, passing on a poor quality book to the collection, or rejecting it. I think you took the best option.

I have rejected several books today. They all were rejected for the same reason. Lines were truncated. The submitter did not hold down the book hard enough on the scanner to keep it flat. Thus many words are cut off near the binding at the ends or beginnings of lines. Such truncating makes a book unreadable. I hope the appearance of the new manual will increase the quality of submits. Validators simply can only clean up so much. A bad submit is sometimes impractical to fix up.
