Gary,
I take your caution about Bigness, but only in the context of working
with a single client who is looking for healing. When I suggested the
By George! constellation, it was meant in the spirit of research and
even public outreach as you so well described Bert doing with the
large group in Santa Barbara when you repersented Tonto.
I also have no intention to right any wrongs here, at least on the
Big level of the nation. In thinking about it now, I realize that
any "righting" intention was at the Little end, to bring to
consciousness the attitude of, let us say, a person who is bashing
George Bush or Bill Clinton because of the person's probable "double-
shifting" with his own parents.
I also mean it in a lighter, more jolly way, given that "many a truth
is told in jest," and Uncle Bert keeps telling us to work with
lightness (levity) instead of heaviness (gravity). Moreover, my
intention is the soul equivalent to a "reductio ad absurdam" argument
in logic, when you bring some assertion to its logical conclusion,
which is to make it as Big as possible, and then let the absurdity
shine forth in all its glory, and we can all have a great release of
laughter at the Divine and Human Comedy of it all.
Actually, what is most absurd of all, is me or you thinking that we
could possibly forsee what such a Big Nation Constellation might
reveal. Thus I propose that you and I ought to collaborate on such a
research project because you weigh in on the caution side of the
scale, and I am the devil-may-care fool who recklessly steps in where
Hellinger's angels fear to tread. We might just balance things out!
With that in mind, perhaps we could both co-facilitate and
participate in the National Field, with you representing Oliver Hardy
(left brain) and me representing Stan Laurel (right brain). In this
way, we would ensure that however Big the constellation got, the
bombast of the Bigness would "never get off the ground." Then we
could find reps for the 3 Georges ---
(who might, at first blush, remind us of Moe, Larry & Curly, but we
need to save the latter trio for another constellation when they
would represent each of the tri-partate nested brains --- thinking,
feeling, lizard --- instead of the Bi-cameral brain with its dueling
dualistic hemispheric laterality.)
--- and run the national constellation.
Obviously we won't give back our adolescent republic to our Mother
Country England, but at least we could give Kraut King Georg III his
due respect and honor.
See, Ollie, we really need to do this constellation, just look how
disrespectful I am being to King George. (Now weeping & blubbering as
only Stan can!) Oh, Ollie, please forgive me, I'm still carrying GI
Joe Perpetrator energy from WW II and I'm sorry, I just can't help
it, Ollie, please constellate me so I can be more respectful to King
George and all the other Georges, too... blubber, blubber!
(But we must draw the line at Liberace's brother! He remains
excluded --- unless we find that one or more of the 3 Georges is gay.)
Thomas
PS In case you're wondering about the possible pedigree of such low-
brow [pun intended] ideas, I would like to cite a short essay I am
reading right now, published in 1979 by the great British writer on
the occult and such, Colin Wilson. The title of his essay is: THE
LAUREL AND HARDY THEORY OF CONSCIOUSNESS.
(Since I have watched many more episodes of the 3 Stooges than L&H,
the Moe-Larry-Curly brain idea is mine. Nyuk! Nyuk! Nyuk!)
