My experience in working with cases of anorexia has almost universally been
related to an obsessive mother who wants her daughter to be something she
(the mother) has been unable to be. In many cases the mother has struggled
with weight issues and is unhappy with her body and desires (lovingly) that
her daughter be different. This body image issue can impact the
relationship with her husband ( her daughter's father) and by extension
with the daughter. The trans-generational aspect has much to do with the
relationship mother/grandmother and may go back even further in terms of
the mother / daughter relationships and dynamics throughout the system.
