In my experience what Stephan says holds true and I would offer this...that
sometimes the child tries to disappear in the place of another "rather me than
you" but I agree this is also often a layer. Also I have become aware as I am
sure we all do at some point that each person is unique and so I ask: "How does
this condition serve the system? and in what manner does it function to bring
attention to the underlying dynamic" So I am aware that much of the work
reveals itself in metaphors and I find myself asking in what way does this
limit the client, or sabotage success. Does it keep them a prisoner? who was
the original prisoner? Does it keep them trapped who was trapped first?
Many time for me, the language that is idiosyncratic when unwound all the way
down, points to a trauma. Maybe not the original trauma but to a trauma at any
rate. The systemic sentence gives the essence of the effect of the trauma.

my experience with Anorexia is that there are mostly coming more
dynamics together and interacting into each other. My experiance is that
the child for itself often is not able to break the loyalties to the
family of origin and step into its own life, so I usually begin to work
with the parents and we decide individually if and how much the child is
participating in the workshop.
