Hello, Colleagues
A group such as C Talk is not governed by the same rules or laws that
governments are. This is probably because they are completely voluntary,
unlike in the body politic.The only consequences of unsubscribing is
that we don't get the messages any more.
In all honesty, what I notice is that when emails outside or nearly
outside of the Guidelines get posted - some number of us who only have a
very short time to decide to delete or read / keep, will unsubscribe.
There was a recent flurry of such in this group. I appreciate that Chris
is taking responsibility for monitoring and I don't mind a bit if there
is a pause before something is posted, so he has time to consider it.
It's more work for him but less for us.
The message that was followed by the unsubscribes was, if I recall
correctly, an announcement of a person's website. It read like a
promotion, even though if it had been couched as an announcement of
where to find valuable stuff - which it apparently has - it would likely
have caused no kerfluffle.
What Chris proposes is a long way from substance censorship. Perhaps
those whose messages don't get through could take it up with Chris first
- and then complain hereor in a separate channel, if need be. I
appreciate that he is saving me time - saving us time - and protecting
the integrity of the circle. We're all capable of pettiness and affront.
He even advised me once on how to couch an inquiry to come within the
Guidelines, when I inquired before posting. How censorial is that? I'm
glad someone else is winnowing non-conforming stuff out. It keeps the
messages nourishing.

One mail that got blocked
from appearing on CTalk very recently came from me.
In that post, written just before the new guidelines were published,
I replied to a mail of Chris',
the same that Sheila replied to two days ago.
As you know, hers got through.
I am still puzzled why mine did not, fail to detect contravention
of the old as well as new guidelines.
Perhaps this will be my last post to CTalk,
as I will not submit further posts knowing they are being censored.

The new addition in the moderation process does something funny with
me. It rather diminishes my joy of sharing in this forum.
I am still pondering why, and nevertheless will try to explain. So
far I found this forum a most beautiful place to share, explore and
have fun. For this I am utterly grateful to you. Just today I talked
with my group of trainees about it, encouraging them to join, talking
about the great open minded discussions we are having. Now I feel I
might have offered a toothless tiger to them.
What made you feel it necessary to go in this direction? I truly find

And: I am totally aware this being your forum and therefore you
should truly do what fits to your needs. I also am glad you ask for
feedback and that is what I am trying to do with this mail.
I believe there is a part in me who wants to say: relax, you do not
need to protect us, we are all grown up and certainly had to deal
with a lot of worse stuff in our lives than hurtful and unfriendly
feedback. I just cannot believe that any one working with the tuff
issues we often have to face in constellations would want to choose
to take part in a forum that feels like a toothless tiger. So my
suggestion is: give some credit to our all ability to bounce back,
our own good judgement and let the forum fly!
