Hi Chris,

Yeah, been in the business for many years and know about de-essing.

I'm still not finding a sidechain eq option though for either the
regular Sonitus compressor or the Sonitus multiband.

I don't find any options for that in either of those.

I haven't had a chance to look at the vx 64 or the vc 64 for de-essers
yet but you are correct. I'd rather build my own.

Thanks,
Floyd...

Hi Floyd.

Really, the only reason I suggested building your own de-esser with
EQ and side-chain compression is so you understand what a de-esser
does and how it works. It's a useful exercise. Of course, if you come
up with one you particularly like, be sure to save it as a track
template to pull up later.

If you try the one built into VC64 or maybe it's VX64 and don't care
for it, Waves make the Renaissance De-Esser, Plugin Alliance sell the
SPL De-esser which is really simple. I believe Fab Filter make one.

About the only thing to be careful of is pushing a De-esser too hard,
which makes the singer sound like they are lisping.

Awesome Chris,

So I've been using 8.851 for 2 or 3 months from 8.0 and didn't
realize we had access to
the Sonitus compressor sidechain. Just hadn't gotten there yet.
I'll indeed use it.

thanks very much,
Floyd...

Floyd, there's a De-esser built into either the VC64 (vocal channel)
or maybe it's the Vintage channel? Anyway, one of those two plug-ins
has a de-esser section.

As for finding the offending frequency where the sibilance lives,
that's where you boost a narrow band of EQ and sweep around until you
find it. Seriously. Use your ears for that part. (grin)

Rather than manually selecting and lowering S-sounds, why not build
your own de-esser? Use the Sonitus compressor. Feed it's side-chain
input with a heavily EQ'ed version of the vocal, EQ'ed with low and
high pass filters set around your target frequency where the sibilance
is.

Hey there,

Been using Sonar for a long time. I have yet to find a DeEsser on
board.

Tired of doing that manually with volume and eq. Takes forever.

Anyone out here use something within Sonar?

And

is there an accessible Sonar analyst tool to nail the offending
frequency between 4 and 10 k?

I've actually found it a bit faster to push a vocal to SoundForge,
treat it and bring it back. But still very very labor intensive.

thanks,
Floyd...
