That's a lot of gear for only 2 roadies, who does your live mixing?

Hi Phil,

It does sound a lot of hard work, however there are reasons for my seemingly
mad EQ obsession when performing live.
Some of the old Theatres need EQ has they wasn't really designed for large
PA application, they have very high ceilings and nothing to dampen the
overall sound.
The other extreme is certain clubs that have very low ceilings and are
heavily furnished.
The EQ changes are subtle but affective.

The reason for EQ on the microphone is to recreate that 1950's microphone
sound like what Jerry Lee Lewis would have used at Sun Studio.
it's not easy recreating that sound without EQ as there are some very
unusual frequencies that recorded on the vocal tracks at Sun Studio. I try
to capture a slightly cleaner version of the sound as it gave songs such as
"Great Balls of fire" that pure Rock 'N' Roll feel.

I do take a lot of equipment to my Shows, it's the only way I can stay ahead
of the game, I have 4000 watts of stage lighting, 2650 watts active PA
system, baby grand piano shell for my digital piano, a projector that makes
the piano look like it's on fire, Mackie mixer, DBX equaliser, TC
electronics' Effect unit, two Shure Beta 87A microphones, Ax keyboard, JTS
wireless in ear monitors all the polls and stands and a partridge in a pare
tree.

That's nothing compared to some of my musician friends, it's like a live
performance bigger and better addiction and you are showing early signs with
the Bass Bin lol.
