Yea i guess music has a different type of language for every language or
variation thereof; i quickly learned this when i was teaching piano lessons
to somebody in spanish. Note names and values have a complete different set
of words than quarter, half etc... Even the note names do!

Wow, If I'd not known those terms I'd have never passed my GCSE music exams.

Must be a UK thing.

I do prefer quarter, half etc.

Cheers

Breve? Semibreve? Minim? Crotchet? Quaver? Semiquaver? Demisemiquaver?
Hemidemisemiquaver? Strange terms indeed. I've heard of whole notes, half
notes, quarter notes, 8th notes, 16th notes, 32nd notes, 64th notes, and
even 128th notes. And a couple times, I've run into a few 256th notes and
512th notes.

Hi Annabelle,

Ahh, how sequences cope with different time signatures.
take the number 12, it has factors 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6
1 would equal a 12th of a beat,
2 would equal a 6th of a beat,
3 would equal a quarter of a beat,
4 would equal a third of a beat,
 6 would equal half a beat,
12 would equal one beat
Now 12 would work but would be limited if you wanted to cut a fraction off
say the half beat?
so lets not have 12 as one beat, lets multiply that 12 by something crazy
like 80.
12 multiplied by 80 gives us a whopping 960 ticks to the beat.
in music terms,
960 ticks =a crotchet,
480 =a quaver,
240 ticks =a Semiquaver,
   120 =a Demisemiquaver,
60 = a Hemidemisemiquaver
30 is very small indeed ha ha.
don't think it has a name? it so small it's a 120th of a note.

Hope this helps.

What about if the song is in a compound meter, like 6/8 or 12/8 time? Or how
about some of those unusual meters, like 5/4, 7/4, and 7/8?

Hi Annabelle,

There's another way you can move through Sonar. Each beat is 960 ticks. so
have a beat is 480.
If say you want 7th bar and you want to be 1 and a half beats in.
Simply press F5 three times then type 7.2.480
Now press enter and you are 7 beat 1 and a half beat into your song.

Are you talking about in Sonar? I've never been able to move in a project
beat-by-beat, but I've been able to go measure-by-measure. Is there really a
way to go beat-by-beat?
