HEMIDEMISEMIQUAVER is not valid in Scrabble because the board is not that big, but DEMISEMIQUAVER is in the Scrabble dictionary, so with the S added to make it plural, you could score up to 356 points, filling the entire row. (This is theoretical, of course, since you can't hold 15 tiles on the rack.)

Hi DJX,

What's really crazy is, the shorter the note, the longer the word.

I do find things like that strange, I mean, why is abbreviation such a long word and why is dyslexic so hard to spell.
Well, off before I'm in trouble for changing the topic.

Wow! I'll stick to the USA way of numbers/fractions, look at 128th note,
that's a long word to pronounce!

Hi Sheila,

I've just checked on Wikipedia, and they are indeed English terms.
Double whole note
(breve) .
Whole note
(semibreve) .
Half note
(minim) .
Quarter note
(crotchet) .
Eighth note
(quaver) . Sixteenth note (semiquaver) . Thirty-second note
(demisemiquaver) .
Sixty-fourth note
(hemidemisemiquaver) .
Hundred twenty-eighth note
(semihemidemisemiquaver)

I foolishly thought these names were recognised all over the World?

Are these British terms? Can I assume a quaver is a half note?

Hi Annabelle,

Ahh, how sequences cope with different time signatures.
take the number 12, it has factors 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6
1 would equal a 12th of a beat,
2 would equal a 6th of a beat,
3 would equal a quarter of a beat,
4 would equal a third of a beat,
6 would equal half a beat,
12 would equal one beat
Now 12 would work but would be limited if you wanted to cut a fraction
off say the half beat?
so lets not have 12 as one beat, lets multiply that 12 by something
crazy like 80.
12 multiplied by 80 gives us a whopping 960 ticks to the beat.
in music terms,
960 ticks =a crotchet,
480 =a quaver,
240 ticks =a Semiquaver,
  120 =a Demisemiquaver,
60 = a Hemidemisemiquaver
30 is very small indeed ha ha.
don't think it has a name? it so small it's a 120th of a note.

Hope this helps.
Steve W

What about if the song is in a compound meter, like 6/8 or 12/8 time?
Or how about some of those unusual meters, like 5/4, 7/4, and 7/8?

Hi Annabelle,

There's another way you can move through Sonar. Each beat is 960
ticks. so have a beat is 480.
If say you want 7th bar and you want to be 1 and a half beats in.
Simply press F5 three times then type 7.2.480 Now press enter and you
are 7 beat 1 and a half beat into your song.

Are you talking about in Sonar? I've never been able to move in a
project beat-by-beat, but I've been able to go measure-by-measure. Is
there really a way to go beat-by-beat?
