Hi Kevin, I don't think I will be breaking any NDAs or confidences mentioning that way back, a bug in AI Squared's Zoomtext was found though this service, and a fixed version released before more than a tiny hand full of users noticed. It quite literally saved the company, who were just about to burn thousands of CDs, a small fortune. That was the final recommendation which convinced Duxbury Systems to then subscribe. I work quite closely with Duxbury and have used this facility with them on quite a few occasions to resolve obscure issues that have arisen during early development phases. I have also caught out a few guys on technical support for companies like sage Accounting, who didn't even know that their development team had the facility. Sadly this is not as know about as it should, so I do always try to spread the word. It usually only takes a few seonds, and in the medium term can make a difference to the quality of software. George. ________________________________ From: ddots-l-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:ddots-l-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Kevin Gibbs Sent: 03 March 2009 21:53 To: ddots-l@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [ddots-l] Re: can't install cakewalk sonar 8.3 George, didn't know about the microsoft subscription thing. I often hit Don't Send when I have the opportunity to send an error report because I figure it will simply be ignored. I'll rethink this in the future. If you are technically inclined, you may get some clues from the following. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/249873 Is your system set up to send error reports to Microsoft? I am a great advocate of this, and have personal experience with a number of developers who subscribe to Microsoft's analysis of these reports. I would be more than surprised if the Sonar developers are not signed up for this too. If you are, a "Bucket Number" is generated when you send the report, which in turn allows the subscribed developer to home in on the details of your report submission. If the developer can't figure outthe problem, they then have access to highly experienced Microsoft staff who will assist. George.
