Hi Terry, did you check the button we were speaking about on the midi sport, as
it either needs to be pressed to send midi data from your unit.
I don’t remember that model having a mode for midi as its just a simple piano
keyboard, I remember at the time when purchasing my cp33 from Yamaha that this
unit has no midi switch.
Even Though you have the midi sport 1, It can be real daunting when hooking up
the cables to your system.
I’d suggest you switch the cables around just to be on the safe side, and try
using the push button when switching the cables.
Turn down the volume of the casio, and load the regular 16 track template which
has 16 nidi tracks, and play the notes on your board.
If you are hearing the piano sound then that’s the sound of the CakeWalk TTS
soft synth.
If I’m not mistaken, the push button on the midi sport needs to be in the out
position for it to send and receive midi.

Phil replied: if you want to use the actual sounds from the keyboard then
you would need to record both audio and MIDI. You would need the MIDI data
from the keyboard to play back the sounds from the keyboard that you are
recording into Sonar. If you want to just record MIDI data and check that
it's getting into Sonar then the suggestion of inserting a softsynthe and
choosing the MIDISport as an input port is a good one as that will tell you
if the Casio is actually sending out MIDI data and if Sonar is able to
receive it. I would try that next. If you are able to record a softsynthe
using the Casio then that tells us that MIDI data is making it into Sonar
but not back out of Sonar and through the MIDISport port into the in port on
the Casio. That wouldn't be unusual as have a Kurzweil PC-88 here which
automatically sends data out, but won't receive it unless I enable that
option.
If you are unable to record a softsynthe when using the Casio (this in my
view is unlikely) then that tells us that the Casio is not sending or
receiving MIDI data to Sonar. If that is the case then the Casio probably
has a button in its settings somewhere that needs to be pressed to enable
MIDI send and receive.
If you are able to record a softsynthe then that tells us that the MIDI
receive option is not enabled on the Casio in order to send MIDI data back
out from Sonar through the out port on the MIDISpoart and into the in port
on the Casio. Hope all of the above helps to clarify things further and
helps you to figure out exactly what is going on.
