Hi:
For a while, I did Biance's Single Ladies, probably one of the most mindless pieces of trash ever recorded. Folks would clamor for it every night and I got totally burned out on it within a month. I can play songs that I've been doing for over 25 years and still love doing them, but this new stuff has a very short shelf life with me. I decided that I would not do stuff like that any more. Enough people come to see me doing what I like doing, the classic R&B, standards, some country, seventies and eighties stuff, etc. Why should I prostitute myself doing this trash? And folks who ask for Biance or R Kelly don't tip anyway. I'd rather play a Sanatra song.
Gord

I personally don't think digitally enhanced vocals are going to go away that easily.

Everyone thought Rap music would just come and go, there are Rap Stars now who are bigger names than any of those guys from the 80's. The reason Rap survives it the same reason that maybe digital enhanced vocals will still be around in the future, that is, people without good singing voices can still become pop stars. remember MC Hammer? The first time I heard "Can't touch this" I seriously thought it was a radio DJ playing about with a backing track.
That record sold millions.
Whether the music is good or bad, there are a lot of people who listen to shall we say unlikely artistes who find themselves being super stars.
Well, I'm off now to listen to Lady Gaga...

I reckon you're right there about it being the decades atypical pop identifier, but, it still, er, kinda, sux?

its just overdone pitch correction. Plugins like antaris (not sure if thats how you spel it) autotune are good for it. Personally, i think that idia has been done to death.

Oh I agree it's been overdone! Just as we probably all recognize pop from the 1980's by the gated reverb, electronic drums, keyboards etc. I bet this will be the recognizable sound of the past decade. *sigh*
