Steve makes an interesting point here.  Although it's possible for anyone to
record anything, there's still an art to being a good engineer.  Producing
and arranging  are very different animals indeed.  Being someone who tries
to do both, I can tell you that I think very differently when working on the
sound for a project, E.G. sorting out EQ, Compression, panning mixing etc.
as aposed to looking at the best vocal arrangement for a song.

Hi Gord,

I personally believe the problem is, years ago we had Arrangers that did
there job beautifully and then it would be recorded and produced by other
people.
These days the producers think they know how to right, arrange and produce
the whole song.

Nat King Cole would have had a career lasting around 2 years if he'd been
starting out now.

Now Nat's a guy who never ever needed pitch correction, what a legend.
