I reckon you're right there about it being the decades atypical pop identifier, but, it still, er, kinda, sux?

Oh I agree it's been overdone! Just as we probably all recognize pop from the 1980's by the gated reverb, electronic drums, keyboards etc. I bet this will be the recognizable sound of the past decade. *sigh*
