I personally don't think digitally enhanced vocals are going to go away that easily.
Everyone thought Rap music would just come and go, there are Rap Stars now who are bigger names than any of those guys from the 80's. The reason Rap survives it the same reason that maybe digital enhanced vocals will still be around in the future, that is, people without good singing voices can still become pop stars. remember MC Hammer? The first time I heard "Can't touch this" I seriously thought it was a radio DJ playing about with a backing track.
That record sold millions.Whether the music is good or bad, there are a lot of people who listen to shall we say unlikely artistes who find themselves being super stars.
