use more software compressors here than hardware ones.  Even using different 
software compressors, will ad a different sound to a track, as they all use 
different algorithms.  Anyway, you could still use your hardware ones but, not 
print it to a track.  This is achieved in Sonar 7 with the External Hardware 
Insert feature.

  I'm considering purchasing an external stereo compressor/preamp. What are 
some of your thoughts/experiences regarding software plugins/compressors vs 
external hardware ones? Will the external ones produce better quality 
compression, (make things sound warmer,) than plugins will?
