[ddots-l] vst not recording while vocal track armed

Hello,
This is the first time i've tried this: I was recording a client today who is a
pianist and singer. He likes recording and playing simultaneously. I used a vst
piano and had an audio track armed for his vocals. I wasn't aware of this, but
apparently, softsynths midi tracks don't record anything if you have an audio
track armed? Is this correct? If so, how do you remedy the situation?
