Another simple free solution is to get the free braille translator called
NFBTrans and it allows for back translation as well. Very basic, but I used
to use it and it worked well. In its original form, it had to be run from a
DOS prompt, but there is now a Windows interface through which it runs
called WinTrans. I'm sure various blindness sites have it, but you can read
more about it and download it from
http://www.moving-mountains.com/utils.shtml

Very simple, but fast and it does the job for basic use.

Hi All:

Got the file into BRF then successfully opened in Kurzweil 1000. This helps
my client since she has Kurzweil.

Hello All:

Here's one for you. I am trying to help a client that needs a way to
translate books formatted in Braille files, like .brf or .dxb, into text
files that she can listen to on her computer. She has a Braille Note
that does not work at all and that she cannot afford to get upgraded.

Someone suggested I try opening Braille files in Open Book. So, before
talking with my client I decided I'd experiment with doing just that.
When I went into Open Book, then selected a Braille file in DXB format
to open and pressed enter on it, the file did not open. Instead, it was
printed to my default printer, wasting a lot of paper.

Does anyone know if you can open .brf or .dxb files using Open Book and
if so, any special ways to do it? I would especially be interested if
one can open these files in Open Book if you don't have Duxbury as my
client does not.

Thanks,
