For the page numbering question:
I assume you are using a BANA template. Adjust these instructions to
suit your requirements if not. (If you are using the Australian
template, there are already styles for pages with no number; pages
with Roman numerals; and pages with Arabic numerals.)
For the first two pages, I am not sure if you want no page number, or
a transcriber-generated page number (sometimes called a t-number). If
you want no page number, see these instructions about the [svpnp] code
taken from the DBT Help File:
[svpnpN:N:N:N] – Set page number placement values. The N's are given
in the order: braille (internal) page number on odd sides, internal
number on even sides, print (reference) number on odd sides, reference
number on even sides. The possible values for any N are: 0 for no
place, 1 for upper left, 2 for upper right, 3 for lower left, 4 for
lower right. The default values are 4, 4, 2 and 2 respectively
(corresponding to American "textbook format"). E.g. [svpnp2:2:0:0]
would establish customary literary format, with braille page numbers
at upper right and no print page numbers shown.
If you wanted a t-number, just select the appropriate style from the
BANA template.
To get Roman numerals, enter the [pntr] code just after the code that
would indicate that you are starting a new page, either a [pg] or a
[top] code.
To enter Arabic numerals, enter the [pnta] code after the indicator to
start a new page, either a [pg] or a [top] code.
To enter any code, press F9 and type your code.
Volume division question:
511 pages is probably inclusive of interpoint. 511 divided by 2 is
about 256 pages per volume, which is far too many. I would suggest
three, four or five volumes as more appropriate. Many transcription
agencies try to stop volumes from exceeding 160 pages per volume
(eighty sheets) when produced interpoint.
